What is asthma?
Asthma is an inflammation of the air passages resulting in the temporary narrowing of the airways that transport air from the nose and mouth to the lungs. Many things can cause asthma symptoms; including allergens and irritants inhaled into the lungs which result in inflamed, clogged and constricted airways. Symptoms include difficulty breathing, wheezing, coughing tightness in the chest. In severe cases, asthma can be deadly.
What are the common signs of asthma?
Common symptoms include coughing (including persistent cough), wheezing or whistling sounds that may be heard when a child exhales, shortness of breath or rapid breathing, unexplained irritability, grunting, and, complaints of chest pain. These symptoms can occur after exercise or for no apparent reason at all, and can be associated with other respiratory issues.
Michael had an active imagination. He would always pretend he was a Jedi Knight, a force for good in the Universe. It is because of his willingness to always do what was right that we endeavor to fight asthma. It would be his wish; the right thing to do.
If you feel your child is having an asthma attack seek immediate medical attention. There is no such thing as being over-protective when your child’s life may be at stake.
